Dairy Farm Life - S1E4 - Calving

Due to our production of milk, cheese and gelato on farm - all made with milk from our own cows - we calve in two groups: February for about 8-10 weeks and again in July.

When cows get to within 10-12 days of calving they are bought in to the “Mooternity Ward” and fed a special feed of grain.

We rear about 30 Heifers (females) at each calving. Cows that don’t get "in calf" will cease producing milk and is the biggest reason cows are culled from the herd.
